I think the saddest part is, in this fic/verse, Michael has grown to enjoy Adam so much so that he's not really bothered about Dean any more. (I say enjoy, because well Don!Michael calls Adam a "habit" and won't admit it's something closer to love.) And Adam is probably resigning himself to Stockholm Syndrome.
